ith the program Sustainable Economic Development and Food Security SEED Samburu together with the community proposes to find other ways to achieve food security and to generate income. The communities in Samburu County strive to be less dependent of their livestock, because of long droughts that lead to livestock atrocities. They wish to be less or independent of food reliefs, because the reliefs are not reliable and have negative influence on development.
As part of this program, SEED Samburu realized the following projects:
• Agricultural fields in four communities
• Purchase of cattle that yield more milk and meat
• Production and jewelry trade on national and international markets. The jewelry created by Samburu women are on sale in the Netherlands through www.fair-beads.nl
Adventurous journeys for international guests to get to know the culture and way of life of the Samburu.
